Here at Glenbard North, there has been a change recently regarding the way students enter and exit the building. There is a new scan procedure, where students must scan their IDs with the two scanners located by Door 1 and Door 28. In the beginning, there were many questions on what major impacts this new procedure might cause. The scan procedure has been in place since March 24, and students have seen the efficiency with which the procedure is enacted, and after testing the process, there are few to no problems that were encountered.
In addition to scanning into the building, juniors and seniors must scan out if they are leaving for collaboration hour or otherwise leaving early.
The main purpose of this new scan procedure is to ensure safety in our school and to make sure that administrators know where students are at all times. Erika Willis, Assistant Principal of Student Services, talked about why the new procedure was put into place: “It’s all about safety and accountability, accountability for us and accountability for you as a student.” Further explaining why the new scan procedure was put in place, the main reason is to have accountability for staff, administrators, and students.
Students all throughout GN have made assumptions about how this new procedure may negatively affect the time it takes to get inside the building; however, hearing from students now after we have had the procedure in place for a couple of weeks, things have started sounding more positive. Stephany Romero, ’25, gives her input on the scan procedure and how she thinks it can help our school, saying, “It keeps the school safer overall because it’s supposed to make sure that you’re the actual person coming in.”
Overall, based on what is being said by both staff and students, the impact of the new scan procedure on Glenbard North is definitely positive and has great benefits that help our school in so many ways including accountability for administrators and students, while also improving safety within Glenbard North.
