On Thursday, October 10 at 7:30 pm, as well as Friday, October 11 at 4:30 pm, in the Glenbard North Little Theatre, the Fall Theatre Studio staged the fantasy production Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Tim Kelly. The play was directed by Kim Maslo and managed by Roman Wolfe, Nyomi Arana, ‘26, and Connor Borbas, ’26.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland depicts a young girl named Alice who falls asleep while reading with her sister. Alice follows a rabbit that scurries around with a pocket watch and falls into a strange world led by chess pieces.
Some characters that stood out to me were Alice from scenes 1, 6, and 11, as well as the Mad Hatter, who were played by Julia Ribeiro, ‘28, and Kairi Rios, ‘27, respectively. The actors suited their characters incredibly well. The Cheshire Cat, played by Presley Kurylo, ‘27, was a favorite of mine for her sassy and mischievous personality that was emulated by the actor. Aidan Aguilar, ‘26, who played the White Rabbit, did a good job portraying the frantic energy of his scenes. However, the character that seemed best depicted, to me, was the Queen of Hearts. The actor, Angie Ocampo, ‘25, truly channeled the powerful voice of the monarch she played.
The sound design for the play, done by Marissa Talarico, Ben Tolentino, ‘25, and John Luu, ‘26, also deserves recognition. Everything from ambient sounds to onomatopoeia was thoughtfully timed and well done. The costumes for the cast, courtesy of Kim Maslo, Kate Orozco, ‘25, Emma Glinkowski, ‘26, Sophia Nicolaidis, ‘27, and Brandon Arias, ‘28, were nothing to scoff at, either. Each of them represented the characters accurately (and not to mention, very stylishly). The light tech for the play, done by Madison Gillis, Kris Silva, Chelsea Perez, ‘25, Michelle Mann, ‘27, and Emilia Nascimento, ‘27, was attention-grabbing, namely the red glow in the beginning scene when Alice awakens in Wonderland.
Overall, the GN Theatre’s production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was a highly entertaining and engaging experience that was well done and thoughtfully planned. It left a great impression as the first play of the year for the Glenbard North Fall Theatre Studio.
