On Friday, September 20, a pep assembly was hosted in the GN Gym. The MC for this event was David Hennessey, Social Studies teacher. The rally was meant to excite students in anticipation of the football game later that day and the homecoming dance the following evening. Student volunteers participated in a variety of games and challenges. Members of fall sports teams and state qualifiers were recognized and appreciated.
Among all these events, there were some that stood out to the students. A student was overheard saying that they enjoyed the performance of the GN Cheer Team. Many students agree with this sentiment, as shown by the uproarious applause that the girls received at the assembly. Dhani Patel, ‘28, shared that, “I really loved the Superfans’ performance.” When asked which event stood out to her the most, Nisha Godhani, ‘28, said, “The thing that stood out to me the most was the [Pom Security].” When asked what event from the assembly she enjoyed the most, Godhani responded, “Probably the Pantherettes.” Other students stated that they liked the pyrotechnics that were put on display during the assembly this year.
Of course, we cannot forget the Panther Mascot who faced off against the Glenbard Steppers. Many freshmen were gobsmacked.
The pep assembly was generally well-received, with most agreeing that it was worth their time. Patel expressed that she enjoyed the assembly because, “I got to get out of my classes.” However, some students felt that the assembly dragged on too long, and one student mentioned getting overwhelmed by the fact. This may be a suggestion for future pep assemblies to be shorter and more engaging, perhaps toning down on some of the features that can overwhelm students such as loud noises and bright lights.
All in all, the pep assembly was a reprieve from the typical monotony of the school day, according to many.
