Hello, students and staff of GN! It has been about a month since the start of school. As we welcome our new students to the campus, we must also acknowledge our new teachers too! One of the newest additions to the staff is Vincent Lyons, also known as Profe. Lyons to his students. I had the pleasure of interviewing him, and I got to learn so many interesting things about him!
What is your favorite part of GN so far?
“I think my favorite part about GN is the awesome support from staff members and also the awesomeness from students.”
Where did you go to school?
“All the way back from high school I went to Lyons Township high school, then Ohio University. I graduated there in 2020. Currently I’m working on my two masters, one in Spanish and one in bilingual education. One school is the University of Guanajuato, Mexico and the other is the American College of Education online.”
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
“Definitely still teaching Spanish but maybe different languages too because I’m certified to teach French, and I’d love to pick up another language or EL too.”
What are your favorite things to do?
“Outside of school I love to just work out. I love to exercise. I love doing yoga, hanging out with friends, and trying new restaurants in the city. In school just hanging out with my coworkers and having lunch, but also teaching.”
Where are you from?
“I’m from Burr Ridge, Illinois.”
Why did you choose this job?
“I chose teaching because I always thought Spanish is my favorite class to take and I thought, why not cultivate this passion and use it for my students? Spanish is also the best to teach because you get to teach art, culture, language arts, and history. You get to give students a skill that they’ll be able to use out in the real world.”
Do you like your job position as of right now?
“Yeah! It’s awesome.”
In your own words, what is your idea of a good student? What qualities would they have?
“A good student definitely follows our profile of a graduate here at Glenbard North. I think that the main thing with Spanish is that they are open minded and aren’t afraid to make mistakes. You have to be willing to embrace different and new cultures.”
Is there anything else you would like to say to the staff and students of GN?
“Have a Pantherific new year!”
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Vincent Lyons was from Fernridge, Illinois. He is from Burr Ridge, Illinois.
